Amorphophallus konjac Bulb

Amorphophallus konjac is an easy-growing tropical aroid with a huge, beautiful, umbrella-like leaf. In its native environment, this plant has adapted to seasonal dryness. Much like garden bulbs that go dormant with the cold, Amorphophallus konjac goes dormant each year during winter, with all of its energy stored in its tuber until the spring rains return it to life.

This plant is also called a "Corpse Flower" because its blooms are notoriously smelly. But don't worry! You won't have to plan for the smell anytime soon. These bulbs are a few years away from flowering. These plants are sold as dormant corms ready to grow!

• 'Nightstick' - Dark purple petiole, medium green leaf
• 'Leo Song' - Pale pink petiole with freckles, medium green leaf

How to Grow

• Plant bulb 1-2" deep in a 4" pot with a drainage hole using well-draining potting soil. The pinkish "eye" of the bulb (the growth point) should be pointing up.
•  Grow in bright, indirect light.
•  When new growth appears, water and fertilize regularly through the growing season. We water when the top 1-2" of soil is dry to the touch.
• Stop watering completely when the foliage starts to yellow and die back in late fall. Let the soil dry, trim off the dead leaf, and keep the pot dry until spring. Each year, the plant will come back bigger and taller!
